A few weeks ago I told you I was editing this book. I would like to report that I am no longer editing it. I would also like to report that I did this in an organized and responsible way, but you’ve read this blog before, so you know better. What actually happened is that I went through it chapter… Continue reading Deliberately Lost is Finished
One Small Change Before This Book Goes Out Into the World If you’ve been following along, you might have seen me refer to book three of Inconveniently Haunted as Dead Reckoning. That title is retired now. The book you’ll actually be able to buy soon is called What Was Kept. Nothing about the story changed. Same house, same ghost, same… Continue reading What Was Kept
I owe you an update, and it’s a good one, because I’ve spent the last stretch living in two completely different corners of my brain at once. One foot in a rain-slicked European city with a woman who can’t stop chasing her grandmother’s ghosts. The other foot in Charleston, in a house that’s decided it’s done keeping secrets. Let me… Continue reading Two Books, Two Very Different Kinds of Done
Confession: there’s a version of Deliberately Lost that lived quietly in my drafts folder for years before it became a real book. The bones were always solid. Maxine, a travel blogger who cannot mind her own business (professionally, this is a feature, not a bug), decides to retrace the pre-wedding trip her grandmother Marion took across Europe decades ago. What… Continue reading Deliberately Lost Just Wrapped Its Final Edit, and I Have Feelings
The one where I actually did it The Museum of Ephemeral Arts: A Mel Jones Mystery is live on Amazon. I need a moment with that sentence because I have been working toward it for a long time and it still doesn’t feel entirely real. Here is what I can tell you about the book: It is a paranormal cozy… Continue reading It's Here. The Museum is Open.
A Short Story This one came from a question I couldn’t stop turning over: what happens to the stories that never got told? Not lost in a fire or a flood — just quietly buried. Wrong time, wrong gender, wrong connections. The usual story. I started pulling on that thread and ended up with Maxine, a woman suffocating in a… Continue reading The Lost & Forgotten Library
I don’t do downtime… Here is a thing that happened recently: my editor and I are in the middle of editing The Static, which means I am in that particular phase of the writing life where the manuscript exists but is not yet done and I am not allowed to touch it except in the specific ways I am allowed… Continue reading I Spent Three Days Building a Museum for Dead People and I Have Notes
What Do You Want to Read? I’ve been sitting on fragments lately. Little scenes that won’t leave me alone, that feel too alive to stay locked in my drafts folder but aren’t quite stories yet—not full arcs, not complete narratives, just these moments that grabbed me and wouldn’t let go until I wrote them down. One of them is a… Continue reading The Almost-Stories
A woman, a bar, and a significant failure of situational awareness Hi. I’ve missed this. I’ve been deep in The Static for weeks, which is going well in the way serious work goes well — meaning it’s consuming and I love it and it has been eating my entire brain. Which means it was time to come up for air… Continue reading The Better View
