What Was Kept

One Small Change Before This Book Goes Out Into the World

If you’ve been following along, you might have seen me refer to book three of Inconveniently Haunted as Dead Reckoning. That title is retired now. The book you’ll actually be able to buy soon is called What Was Kept.

Nothing about the story changed. Same house, same ghost, same found family finally getting some real answers. What changed is that somewhere in the last read-through, I realized Dead Reckoning was doing one job (the mystery, the countdown, a nautical pun I was a little too proud of) when the book itself had been asking a much bigger question the whole time. What survives. What gets protected long enough to matter. What Margaret managed to keep safe even after she couldn’t keep herself safe. What Dani gets to keep, in the end, that nobody expected her to have.

What Was Kept just fits better. It’s quieter than Dead Reckoning, and this book earned quiet by the time it reaches its ending.

What Was Kept goes live tomorrow. And for release day, it’s free. Free to download, free to read, free to meet this whole ridiculous found family for the first time or fall for them all over again if you already have.

If you had this on a list somewhere under the old title, it’s the same book. It’s just going out into the world tomorrow, wearing its real name, and it isn’t going to cost you anything to find out how it ends.
