I Forgot I Had a Blog

There is a very specific kind of problem that happens when you are a writer.

You get an idea.

You think, Oh, that’s interesting.

Then you write a little bit of it.

And then a little more.

And then, somehow, you look up three weeks later and realize you have been living in an entirely different book.

Which is how I ended up here, saying:

Sorry.

I forgot I had a blog.

I would like to say this was intentional.

It was not.

I have been busy working on another book, because apparently having one fictional life wasn’t enough for me.

Apparently I needed another one.

Another cast of characters.

Another plot.

Another collection of people making spectacularly questionable decisions while I sit behind a keyboard pretending I am not responsible for any of it.

And because writers are apparently incapable of doing anything normally, I didn’t just start another book.

I started another book under another name.

Because why make your life easier when you can make it considerably more complicated?

So, Harlo Malone has been sitting over here quietly wondering where I went.

And the answer is:

I went to write something else.

I did not mean to stay there.

But you know how it goes.

You open the document.

You write a scene.

The scene needs another scene.

That scene needs a character.

The character needs a backstory.

The backstory needs a problem.

The problem needs to become worse.

And suddenly it’s three in the morning and you’re researching something completely unreasonable because technically it matters to the plot.

This is how writers disappear.

Not dramatically.

Not mysteriously.

Just…

clickety clickety click.

Gone.

So, I’m sorry for neglecting the blog.

I promise I haven’t abandoned Harlo Malone.

I am still here.

Still writing.

Still making things up.

Still asking fictional people to do terrible things to one another for my own entertainment.

And I will absolutely try to remember that this blog exists.

I really will.

Probably.

Because there is still another book over there.

And another name.

And another story tugging on my sleeve.

So if I disappear again…

Well.

You’ll know where I went.

Probably somewhere with a keyboard.

And coffee.

And absolutely no adult supervision.
