Writes
Introducing a Mel Jones Mystery I said more soon and here I am. A gold star for follow-through. A few things have happened since I last wrote. The tribunal is still deliberating on Last Knight. I am still not obsessively refreshing my messages. (I am still obsessively refreshing my messages.) And somewhere in the background of all of this, while… Continue reading Everything Is Out of My Hands Now and I Am Fine
Last Knight, a neurodivergent vampire, and why editing is the part where the fun leaves the room Here is a thing I know about myself: I do not recover from writing sprints gracefully. I crawl out the other side, blinking, slightly feral, having made a mess of my sleep schedule and my kitchen — usually in equal measure. The 24-hour… Continue reading Several Stories in Various Stages of Undress
This book made me consider a pen name for my pen name. I already have a pen name. This book made me consider a pen name for my pen name. We’ll get to that. In my last post I mentioned, somewhat casually, that I had a manuscript I was thinking about publishing under a different name so that “certain people… Continue reading The Book I’m Scared to Let You Read
Thank you London Writer’s Salon This weekend I did something I’ve been turning over in my mind since I signed up for it: I joined the London Writer’s Salon’s 24-Hour Writing Sprint, wrote through the night without sleeping, and came out the other side with four manuscripts in various states of completion and a very specific kind of tired that… Continue reading I Wrote for 24 Hours Straight. Here’s What Happened.
And a 24-Hour Sprint Hello, hello, hello, I’ve spent the last few weeks submerged in two different worlds that are beginning to bleed into one another in ways I didn’t entirely expect. If you’ve been following along, you know I have a soft spot for dusty basements and things that shouldn’t be there. These two new projects have both in… Continue reading The Archive Breathes Back
(Or: What I’ve Been Writing, What I’ve Been Feeling, and a Question for You) The Static is out. It came out March 26th, which means by the time you’re reading this, it has officially existed in the world for a little while, and I am still in the phase where I refresh my dashboard more than I’d like to admit… Continue reading The State of Things
The Static is out. I made a thing. Please don’t tell my cat. So. It’s done. The Static — Book 2 of the Inconveniently Haunted series — is officially a real object that exists in the world and can be purchased by people who are not related to me. This is either a triumph or a cry for help. Possibly… Continue reading The Static
I explain where I went and why The Static is almost in your hands Hi, hello, I’m back. Did you miss me? Don’t answer that. I’ve been gone approximately one week and I have emerged from the other side looking like someone who has been staring at a manuscript in a state of barely-controlled mania, because that is exactly what… Continue reading Where I've Been (Spoiler: Haunted by Deadlines)
The Haunting Before I Do vs. The Static There’s a thing that happens with sequels that nobody warns you about. You write your first book and somewhere in the middle of it — not at the beginning, not at the end, but in the messy middle where you stop performing and start just writing — you find the voice. The… Continue reading On Voice, and What Happens When You Lose It in the Sequel
