More Stories, More Community
Hello lovely readers! I wanted to give you all a little look behind the curtain at what I’m planning for December. It feels like the right time to shake things up, connect more, and just generally stop feeling like an automaton chained to the keyboard.
The Grand Finale of Haint Party
First, I’ll be focused on wrapping up my current series. I plan to post the final installments of Haint Party and share my overall thoughts and reflections on the story by December 11th. It’s been a fantastic journey, and I’m so grateful for everyone who has read along!
New Characters, New Beginnings
Once that’s complete, my plan is to branch out into a new story. This new project will feature a set of characters I’ve briefly dabbled with but have never fully developed. I’m excited to finally give them the space they deserve, and I’ll share more details about who they are and the world they live in later in the month.
🗣️ It’s Time to Socialize!
But December isn’t just about writing, it’s about connecting. I’ve felt a real need to break out of the solitary writer’s cave and engage more. I want to spend time reading and commenting on your Substack posts, joining the discussion threads, and being a more active member of this wonderful community.
This push for connection is also why I’m looking beyond Substack for a bit of experimentation…
🚀 Venturing onto Wattpad
I’m thinking of throwing up a story at Wattpad to see what happens there. For those who aren’t familiar, Wattpad is a massive online storytelling platform and app where millions of readers and writers discover and share stories for free.
How can this help a writer like me who’s already here on Substack?
Massive Potential Audience: Wattpad boasts a huge community of highly engaged, avid readers, especially a younger demographic (Gen Z/Millennials). Posting there is a chance to tap into a completely different, massive market.
Instant Reader Feedback: Wattpad is known for its social experience, allowing for in-line comments. Readers can give instant feedback on every line and paragraph as you post, which is like having a real-time, free focus group to help you shape your story and characters.
Building a Fandom: If a story takes off, it can help build a loyal and dedicated fan base. This fandom could potentially be cross-promoted back here to my Substack, expanding my overall reach and audience.
Discoverability: Unlike a private blog or even some social media, Wattpad is a dedicated reading platform, meaning readers are actively searching for new stories, giving my work more opportunities to be discovered.
It feels like a great way to test the waters, get feedback, and build my author platform from a different angle.
I’m feeling that familiar writer’s itch for something… a fresh story, a change of pace, and more interaction with the community. We’ll see exactly what that “something new” looks like once Haint Party has had its final bow!
